About Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the 456 M. It was the new, Gran tourer car from the famous Italian brand. But it was also faster and lighter than its predecessor.

With the 612 Scaglietti, the Italian car-manufacturer paid a tribute to the Carozzeria Scaglietti, a special coachbuilder from Maranello since 1951. It built few famous models for Ferrari, such as the 250 GTO, 375 America, 365 GTB/4 Daytona, or the 750 Monza race-car. As an homage to the small manufacturer, Ferrari placed its name on the 612 model, even though it was designed by the Pininfarina studios.

The 612 Scaglietti was designed to accommodate four adult passengers inside and a front-mid engine. That being said, the hood was very long and the cabin was moved far behind, with short rear overhang. The scalloped sides resembled the lines of the 375 MM used by the famous actress Ingrid Bergman. In the back, the 240 liters (8.5 cu-ft) trunk was considered enough for the grand tourer car. It was 25% bigger than the one offered by its predecessor, the 456M.

Inside, the Scaliegtti featured a specially crafted aluminum and leather interior which could have been fully customized on request. The steering wheel-mounted commands were a good addition for the driver. A specially developed High-end Bose sound system was installed.

For the drivetrain, the 612 Scaglietti featured a 5.75-liter V12 engine mounted behind the front axle. It was mated to a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. An automated 6-speed unit was offered as an option. Out of 3025 cars produced, only 199 were equipped with the manual gearbox.
