About Suzuki Ertiga
Suzuki introduced the Ertiga on the South-Asian market in 2012, trying to compete in the small MPV segment and get a slice of the pie for the Japanese automaker.
Since Suzuki already had a factory in India where it assembled various models in cooperation with the local brand Maruti. Thus, based on the Swift's platform, the Japanese-Indian joint venture created the Ertiga. A vehicle that tried to be chicer than its competitors, mainly the Toyota Innova.
With its front fascia that clearly resembled the second generation of the Swift, and a black grille, the Ertiga already sported a familiar look. But looked at its profile, the long roof cabin and the four side doors were completely new. In addition, the B- and C-pillars were darkened to create a stylish appearance. Behind the rear doors, the automaker installed a third row of windows to enhance the driver's visibility. Finally, the vehicle featured corner-mounted taillights at the back that flanked the wide tailgate.
Despite its short length, the automaker squeezed three rows of seats inside, fitted with six headrests. With all seats up, its trunk was good only for a few briefcases. Still, the automaker offered the option to fold down the second and the third row of seats, thus improving the cargo area. At the front, the driver benefited from a complete instrument cluster filled with two large dials and a center TFT display for the onboard computer data. In addition, the steering wheel was fitted with buttons for the infotainment system placed on the center stack.
Under the hood, Suzuki installed a choice of two engines, one with gasoline and a turbo-diesel. The former was paired with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, while the latter offered only a manual gearbox.
